A Very Good Friend...

...sent me invaluable advice...

"Sometimes life puts you in the hallway. Injuries, friends, even lovers, put you neither here not there, but in the path between here and there, called the hallway. My advice while in the hallway....DECORATE! Those are great socks, keep on decoratin' Kim!"

So, I am decorating...

...along with putting hot water bottles on my lower back...

...ice packs, taking hot baths....

....while drinking oodles of tea, and swallowing Robax....

...and making "Martini Glass Dishclothes"...

...because I just couldn't...

...resist.

May your day involve healing...

What the Hell?

I woke up this morning, and decided to try a new running route. My formally injured Achilles Tendon was feeling better than ever, and while the rest of me is feeling a little stiff and sore due to my frenzied attempt to get back into shape as quickly as possible, I thought a new route and some trail running was exactly what I needed. I did wake up with a very stiff lower back, but I didn't give it much thought.

The Transcanada Trail is a 20 minute drive, and it was sunny, bright, and not too cold. I grabbed my keys, my Camelback, and my camera, and off I went.

The trail was soft and slightly muddy. It's hunting season, so I wore my bright orange jacket just in case I was mistaken for prey.

I didn't get too far before I encountered this...

A washed out trail. I did make it to the last of the "ponds" (at the far end of the photo), but the last pond was more like a river flowing across the trail. I couldn't cross it without getting my shoes completely soaked, so I opted to turn around, and run in the other direction.

As I was running back towards my car, I realized that my lower back was getting tighter and tighter. I was concentrating so much on proper foot placement on the trails, that I hadn't realized that I was leaning forward to take some of the pressure of my back. The more I paid attention to my body, the more I realized that this run was not working. My back was tight, there was another pain shooting down the back of my left leg, and up my back when I brought my left leg forward. I had shortened my stride without intending to, because I couldn't fully extend my leg. By the time I got back to my car, I couldn't walk properly.

What the hell? I have no history of back problems. I never give it a second thought, because it has never, ever hurt me. On September 13th I tore my Achilles, and now I have back problems?

I am tired of being a broken runner. Running has always been so easy, and felt so good, and now it makes me feel awful.

I ran 3 kms. A lousy 3 kms. Week #2 of Recovery Training...65 kms with a fully healed Achilles Tendon, one broken back, and bad frackin' attitude.

To make things even worse, I had to drive home behind a pick up truck, pulling a trailer with a dead deer, going 70 km/h in an 80 km/hr zone.

Sometimes I hate this world.

As for knitting...I got socks.

Pattern: Akomeogi Socks by Kristi Geraci

Yarn: Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino
Needles: 2.75 mm

Once again, the pattern is undetectable by my camera...

They are lovely, and I enjoyed the pattern, and knitting them. The dye did turn my hands, fingernails and bamboo dpns a very bright pink.

My feet too.

Now, I'm home, alone, on a Saturday night with a broken back and pink freakin' feet.

May your day not involve dyed appendages...
